breaking out of the dreaded slump…

Oh boy, I’m in a wicked running slump.  Let’s see last week I ran zero miles, the week before last 6 miles, the week before that 9.

I can’t remember the last slump I had, in fact I am proud to say I have actually run 634 miles so far this year. My goal is to hit 750 by the end of December.   Looking back I think the slump started right before Reach the Beach with an injury, and that turned into an almost constant struggle in the month of September and now half way through October. The biggest problem I’m having is the fact that I am actually enjoying not doing anything.  Being lazy sort of feels good right now and I’m not sure why.  Maybe I just needed a break.

Oh, the other biggest problem I’m having is that during this slump I found a delicious brownie in a mug recipe.  I’m not sure if you ever made the brownie in a mug but last week I started searching for recipes in the midst of my lazy free for all and you know I ended up finding the absolute best there is…oh, I tried a bunch…this one is the best and here is the link from Real Mommy’s Blog

No running and mug brownies can quickly equal an extra 5 pounds!

Ingredients

4 tsp unsweetened cocoa powder
8 tsp granulated sugar
1 dash salt
1 drops vanilla extract
4 tsp water
8 tsp plain flour
4 tsp butter

Add butter to the mug. Pop this in the microwave until it has melted.
(time will vary depending on strength of your microwave)

Add water and drop of vanilla extract to butter and mix.
Add a pinch of salt and stir in all your other ingredients one by one to make a nice batter. Make sure there are no lumps of dry ingredients!!

Pop it in the microwave for 60 seconds (depends on strength of microwave)
Remove carefully, allow to cool for a few seconds, then enjoy!!

***I actually added a bit more water and I cooked it for 30 seconds at a time…undercooked is a better than overcooked with this recipe

Okay, so back to my slump….I’m happy to say today I did get actually get out and do 2 miles and even though I look completely miserable in this picture I really felt good!  Between the crisp cool air with temps in the 40’s, the gorgeous tree on Oak Street and my honeymoon legs… I felt good in fact I think good enough to go out again tomorrow.

And, even though I did make the brownie in a mug tonight, oh shoot and had a Mocha from Union Coffee, (I sort of forgot about that) I feel a bit less guilty.

Tomorrow I shoot for 3!
